It’s the first reading log of 2026! January has been relatively quiet, and I came down with a cold at the end, so I’ve done little else but read. And I read a lot because that’s all I could really find the brain to focus on. Hopefully that’s reflected by the backlog going down, but I haven’t worked those stats out yet… Anyway, let’s get into what I’ve been reading this month!

Yeah, I was not exaggerating when I said that I read a lot this month. And despite all that, the backlog only went down by 4 books since I also bought/received a lot. But this is the second decrease in a row, so we’re starting the year on a roll. I know I won’t be able to keep up this pace once work gets busy again in the Spring, so I’m just going to do what I can for now. I also almost finished 7 light novels, as I’m most of the way through Divine Incursions Volume 1, but I never quite got to the end in time. I’m proud of myself for finishing Violet Evergarden Volume 1 since it has been a long time since I finished any light novels in Japanese, that’s for sure… Having read Agents of the Four Seasons before (even in English) helped a lot; I could still see the similarities in the way the author writes. I have some Blue Box novels to read, so that’ll be my next task in Japanese, I think.

I read Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint as part of a Otaku Archivist Cult’s monthly book club, and it was my first time reading any of the Korean novels that Yen Press has been bringing over. Unfortunately, even despite being a fan of the ‘play or die’ genre, I found this a fairly grim read and couldn’t find any reason to get invested in the characters so I decided not to continue. A friend of mine told me about several things I would like that happen later, but right now at least I just don’t have the desire to push on to that point.

I know a new year is the beginning of a lot of new stuff, but it also feels like January brought an end to a lot of manga I was reading! If not serialisations, there’s a bunch of stuff I was reading with final volumes out later this year that I found out about this month. As someone who dislikes saying goodbye to things I’ve gotten invested in, it’s harsh out here lol.
