Before we get into this month’s reading log, I have an announcement of sorts. Around the beginning of the month I started a new series, Backlog Conquest. The idea is to take a more in-depth look at some of the stuff I’ve been reading and that I’m not covering professionally for AUKN or Atelier. These aren’t meant to be reviews, they’re just a collection of my thoughts.

Actually, when a friend read my first entry about Work Sweet Balance, they asked what I consider a review since I’d avoided labelling Backlog Conquest that way. Ultimately, to me, a review is something I write with the reader in mind. I want my work to be useful and give them a good overview of a book and also highlight interesting facts about the work and creators, while capturing how I felt about the whole package. It’s about making sure I cover all bases. But my blog is a lot more freeform, and I’m not thinking all that much about the people who’ll be reading it; it’s just a snapshot of my feelings at the time. If you find that helpful or entertaining, then I am, of course, grateful. I think the entries I’ve written so far kind of showcase that too. My first was more review-like, and so was Ai Ou Futari, but the others aren’t. Who knows if I will actually keep writing these or if it’ll remain in this form, but for now I’m enjoying myself. I’ll definitely include links to all the relevant books here in my reading log too, like I attempt to do with my reviews (and then never ever remember to go back and link up when something goes live after I publish this!).

I feel like the numbers this month are a bit bulked out by serialisations ending, but I also did a lot of binge reading to catch up with a few series. And my light novel numbers are really good this month! Hopefully I can keep that up too. I guess I’m in a bit of a reading mood at the moment, even despite being busy and spending some of the month playing the new Yoshi game. I do really need to get some stuff reviewed though, as my binge reading caused a huge ‘to be reviewed’ pile, and there’s not a lot of room for piling those up…

Let’s hope I can keep going into next month! Also I plan to loop back and write about 一緒ごはんをたべるだけ at some point, so keep an eye out for that and other Backlog Conquest entries~
