BTOOOM! – Anime Review

Btooom! poster

With shows like Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, and No Game, No Life, recent years have certainly seen a fair few anime set around the idea of humans becoming trapped within a video game for one reason or another. Recently I decided to take a look at one of the smaller hits of last year, BTOOOM!, which plays with a similar idea to those mentioned above, but shakes things up enough to keep them interesting. Read on to see what I thought!

Kill la Kill – Anime Review

Killlakillpromo

Kill la Kill. Where do you even begin a review on a series like this one? Sure, when it was first revealed and in the weeks leading up to its release it was clear Studio Trigger were creating something different, something exciting, but never once could anyone have predicted that the show would end up being such a big hit. Of course, Kill la Kill being as crazy as it is, it’s extremely difficult to try and put down in words, but I’m going to give it a go anyway!

It’s hard to talk about anime this season without mentioning one of Studio BONES offerings, Space Dandy. With Shinichiro Watanbe behind it and BONES with their sights firmly set on giving the series a worldwide release as it airs, the show has certainly been a note of interest in the industry.

Valvrave The Liberator – Anime review

valvrave_the_liberator_2

It’s no secret to anyone who knows anything about the anime business that Sunrise are a huge name when it comes to Mecha series and their latest offering, Valvrave the Liberator, was another big hit for the studio. With a distinct Code Geass feel to the relationship between our two lead characters, and a more than intriguing story and feel to the series, Valvrave was the type of series we’d been waiting to see since Code Geass ended.

Beyond the Boundary – Anime review

kyoukai

A new season normally means a new offering from Kyoto Animation, and this season proved no different with Kyoto offering us a fantasy action series in the form of Beyond the Boundary. It’s the type of series that we haven’t really seen from Kyoto before; the closest we’ve gotten is the action scenes from Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. So, with that in mind just how does Beyond the Boundary shape up?

I’ve recently been watching this series through with a very close friend of mine, and while I posted the review up on Anime Plant after watching the series the first time around, I thought it might be fun to share it here too. A lot of what I thought about the series still stands.

Over the past couple of seasons it has been hard to go anywhere without hearing the name Attack on Titan. The show has gained a huge fanbase very, very quickly for a number of different reasons which are quite evident upon watching the show. So, does Attack on Titan really live up to all the hype that surrounds it?

Sunday Without God – Anime review

sunday-without-god-poster

Sunday Without God ended up being one of the pretty hyped anime of the season, despite the poorly translated name. Set in a world where death is no more, and with many mysteries to unearth, just how interesting was this show?

Silver Spoon Season 1 – Anime review

silver-spoon

The summer anime season might have been filled with a number of highly anticipated anime, but maybe none more so than Silver Spoon. The manga series is another hit series by Hiromu Arakawa, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist, but with that in mind can the anime do it justice?

Dogs & Scissors – Anime review

dogandscissors7

Dogs & Scissors is likely the series I’m going to struggle writing about the most this season. It’s quite a simple story and idea at heart, but the series spends so much of its time being utterly insane that it’s very hard not to lose track of what its original goal was. Nevertheless I’ve gone through the crazy and attempted to pull my thoughts together about it.
